Radio "Pionieri"

Those who lived in Albania before the 90s must remember the radio “Pionieri”, but few know that the first Albanian radio, the “Pionieri”, was created precisely by pioneers, school students, included in the courses of the Pioneer House. “Met Hasa” in Durrës.

In 1959, the first local radio station was designed in the city of Durrës, which 13 years later, in November 1962, would also serve as an indication of the design and realization of the first Albanian radio “Pionieri”. It was precisely the children of “Met Hasa”, who brought out the “Pionieri” radio from their imagination and talent, the first official Albanian production.

Two radio stations were also built by placing antennas on the roof of the buildings to spread the signal and waves from house to house throughout Durres, Plazh and Shijak. The broadcast was twice a week, and every citizen who lived through that time still remembered the varied topics of the shows. “Uzina e Radiove dhe Televizorëve”, URT, would later be built in the city.

In the 60s and 70s, many copies of this radio model circulated in the world, and they are similar and with little difference between them. This is the most common style of radio transistors of that time.

It seems that the “Pionieri” radio also used the same model of the plastic case but with a yellow color. The electrical scheme has several characteristics that distinguish it. Two batteries (2 x AA) 3 Volts are used, the low frequency has a transistor pre-amplifier and a push-pull amplifier with NPN transistors and two audio transformers, the high frequency has three transistors and is superheterodyne.”

There are many different brand names in the world but the internals are similar (the only real difference is that some run on a 9 Volt battery and others use a 3 Volt battery) it looks like they are all made by the same factory. Brand names are various such as “Taiyo”, “Harvard”, “Falina”, “Viking”, “TG&Y”, “Unisonic”, “Computron” etc.

Altvista has created a replica of this radio where the design of the case and the external elements are almost identical, while the electrical scheme has been preserved as much as possible to be as close as possible to the original with the difference that silicon transistors have been used instead of germanium transistors (transistors of germaniums are no longer produced and they degrade quickly over the years) and some values of resistors and capacitors have changed in accordance with the parameters of the new transistors.

Altvista has created a replica of this radio where the case design and external elements are almost identical, while the electronic circuit is adapted for FM radio waves.
